Hello fellow stitchers,
This is a welcome letter to my blog. I hope you will find things here that entertain you, inform you, and bring some joy to your stitching life.
It accompanies my website, Queen of my Needle, which, as I write, is still in its infancy. I hope that we can grow together, both business and community. I welcome your company as I build this lovely stitchy space, where we can join together as women who stitch and who wish to celebrate our connection as stitchers across time and geography.
During the time I’ve spent stitching (the past four or five years) I’ve found the stitching community such a welcoming space and I hope this will add to it. We all have our own individual gifts to share and mine, on reflection, appear to be as a writer, researcher and enabler. I offer these to the stitching community in the hope that they will bring enjoyment and some level of fun.
Some time ago I decided I’d like to create a business that brought together women who stitched and who also enjoyed simple things like nature and friendship. Out of my own desire to stitch with other women and share our stories, I committed to creating a series of retreats where we may do just that. These will be linked to the seasons as nature has such power and resonates so strongly with our place as women on this earth. I held this vision in my heart for a long time as I worked as a book editor, but eventually circumstances conspired to allow me to wind down the editing and instead focus on creating this special space for you, my stitching sisters. I am so excited to share it with you now.
As well as offering online retreats that celebrate both nature and stitching and will be run on a seasonal (four times a year) basis, I am offering some other, free, projects: I hope any stitching woman who wants to can participate here. As a long time editor and someone who reveres books, I thought I’d start a book group where we can gather to read crafty books and share our (thoughtful) opinions. I’ve actually wanted to join this book group forever, but never found it, so decided to start it myself as part of Queen of my Needle… By ‘crafty books’, I mean books that are rooted in fabric/textile/colour/design, I’ve even unearthed some fascinating biographies. I hope that you enjoy these as much as I do. There is certainly nothing better than a new book arriving in the post. There is also an Instagram group for brave stitchers, who I’ve decided are those that leap into extraordinary challenging projects simply because they love them. This group is a shout-out and hurrah to everyone who is ‘at last’ going to make a bid for a higher count canvas or an all coverage design, knowing that here you will be supported and able to share your travails and triumphs with stitchy others.
I hope you enjoy the posts I make on this blog. I plan to post every week, so do sign up to receive updates. Here, I will share snippets of my stitching life, plans for the future of Queen of my Needle, and various essays on stitching that I haven been able to resist writing. I have all sorts of topics on the boil, from interviews with designers and stitchy business owners, to fascinating nuggets of stitching history. I love my history as much as I love my stitching, I think.
For now, I hope you enjoy looking around the site.
I look forward to your company on this stitching journey,
